A systems analysis for UBC South Campus Northeast Sub-Area Neighbourhood

Project Description:

Students of PLAN 587A (2009) produced this report in the last two weeks of the course in preparation for the design studio to follow (PLAN 587B).  The South Campus Neighborhood Plan (SCNP) provides for numerous sustainable design features and sets the tone for a conscientious development. The student's goal with this analytical report was to go beyond this, generating researched approaches and contextual techniques that would lead to the most cutting edge sustainable community possible for UBC's South Campus. Imagining the potential for this neighborhood while anxiously trying to preserve space and resources for future generations, the recommendations in this report prioritize the following goals:

  1. creating a healthy sustainable community,
  2. localizing material and energy flows, and
  3. establishing a synergy between the UBC farm and the residential community.
